RU’s Community Garden Expansion this Spring!

garden_plots (5)Last year, a stalwart group of “urban pioneers” broke ground on Roosevelt’s Community Garden in Schaumburg. This year, RU is stepping up the effort to advance the garden’s sustainability in keeping with our mission. New plots plus exciting advancements are planned for this season’s Schaumburg Community Garden:

  • Free rototilling to prepare additional garden plots and turn over the soil in the fall
  • Free compost from the Wabash Building
  • New 5′ x 10′ size plots; creative gardens encouraged
  • A community herb garden managed by the University; herbs will be shared with all gardeners
  • RUrbanPioneers Facebook page for information and gardening tips (coming soon!)
  • Organic gardening tips, special events, plant sales, and competitions for most nutritious, largest harvest and most creative plot
